SAHANA Matcha

SAHAHA - Your Everyday Matcha

SAHANA London cultivates harmony and tranquility through the art of Japanese tea ceremonies and Ikebana flower arrangements.

Born in Okayama, tea practitioner Rei Seto grew up in Tokyo and was inspired by her mother - a tea master from the Urasenke school in Saitama.

As a mother who cares deeply about provenance, quality and safety - our matcha is sourced directly from Japan, aligned with EU pesticide regulations, governed by Regulation (EC) 1107/2009 and the Sustainable Use Directive 2009/128/EC. Hence, the bitterness and vivid colour of pure matcha powders will vary per batch.

Ancient Zen monks drank matcha to enhance their mental clarity and sense of calm during meditation.

Rei advocates this daily practice of inner tranquility and mindfulness - served through your everyday matcha latte with SAHANA.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is matcha?

Matcha is finely milled green tea powder made from specially grown tea leaves. Unlike regular green tea, you consume the whole leaf in powdered form, giving a rich flavour and vibrant colour.

2. How much caffeine does matcha contain?

Caffeine levels vary depending on grade, serving size, and preparation. As a guide, one serving of matcha (around 1–2g) may contain approximately 30–70mg of caffeine.

This is often gentler than coffee for many people, though everyone responds differently.

3. How much matcha can I drink per day?

For most healthy adults, 1–2 servings per day is a common moderate amount. Some people enjoy more, depending on caffeine sensitivity.

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, sensitive to caffeine, or have a medical condition, it is best to seek professional advice.

4. What are the benefits of drinking matcha?

Many people enjoy matcha as part of a balanced lifestyle because it contains:

  • Natural antioxidants

  • A steady source of caffeine

  • L-theanine, an amino acid naturally found in tea

  • A calming daily ritual that encourages mindful pauses

Experiences vary from person to person.

5. Are there any side effects of matcha?

Matcha is generally enjoyed safely by many people, but because it contains caffeine, some individuals may experience:

  • Jitters

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Upset stomach

  • Sensitivity if consumed on an empty stomach

If this happens, reduce the amount or enjoy earlier in the day.

6. What should I be aware of when consuming matcha?

We recommend:

  • Start with a smaller amount if new to matcha

  • Avoid late evening if sensitive to caffeine

  • Store airtight, cool, and away from sunlight

  • Enjoy as part of a varied, balanced diet

7. Why is SAHANA Matcha not from Kyoto / Uji?

Kyoto and Uji are world-renowned matcha regions, but exceptional tea is produced across Japan.

SAHANA Matcha is sourced from Shizuoka — one of Japan’s most respected tea-growing regions — chosen for quality, flavour balance, consistency, and trusted producer relationships.

Great matcha is not limited to one postcode.

8. Why does matcha colour vary?

Natural matcha can vary slightly in shade depending on harvest season, cultivar, weather, and storage. Colour alone does not define quality.
